Showcased during Indonesia Design Week (IDW) 2026, this international exhibition marks a strategic step for IDD PIK2 and SaloneSatellite in strengthening the design synergy between Italy and Indonesia.
Jakarta, Indonesia — Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2 is proud to host the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection Exhibition 1998–2026. This iconic exhibition, making its debut in Indonesia, highlights 55 selected works from a total of 415 objects curated through Salone del Mobile.Milano—the largest and most prestigious furniture show in the world, where designers get a first look at upcoming collections and the trends shaping the future of interiors.
SaloneSatellite itself is one of the most prestigious exhibitions of Salone del Mobile.Milano, dedicated specifically to showcasing the visionary ideas of talented creators under the age of 35. This Permanent Collection serves as a living archive documenting its extensive journey since 1998.

Spanning nearly three decades, the collection chronicles a significant chapter in the evolution of global design, demonstrating how early ideas and experimental prototypes successfully entered the manufacturing industry, transitioned into mass production, and were ultimately recognized as global contemporary icons. Since 2018, this historically significant collection has been housed at the Artwood Academy in Lentate sul Seveso, at the heart of the Brianza region in Italy.
Scheduled from 18 September to 18 October 2026 at Townhall IDD PIK2, the exhibition will be a key highlight of the annual Indonesia Design Week (IDW) 2026, where visitors will be invited to experience an important chapter of design history firsthand.
Jakarta becomes the third international destination for the Permanent Collection, following Hong Kong in 2024 and the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. Its presence at IDD PIK2 also marks the first stop on Salone del Mobile.Milano’s latest international tour, while opening a new chapter in the collection’s global journey.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for IDD PIK2 as it advances Indonesia’s role in the global design conversation. More than an exhibition, the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection creates a meaningful bridge between Italy’s design legacy and Indonesia’s rapidly evolving creative ecosystem, bringing together designers, architects, businesses, developers, students, and design enthusiasts through a shared appreciation for ideas, craftsmanship, and innovation. “Hosting the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection is an important milestone, not only for us, but for Indonesia Design District PIK2 as a whole,” said Ipeng Widjojo, CEO of IDD PIK2. “It reflects the kind of international exchange we want to nurture: one that connects global design excellence with Indonesia’s growing creative energy, local craftsmanship, and future generations of designers.”

This year, IDW 2026 carries the theme “Collective Culture” and returns as a grand celebration of creativity, culture, and collaboration within the Pantai Indah Kapuk area. Organized by IDD PIK2, the annual festival aims to bring design closer to public life through exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops, retail activations, and community-led programs. The series of events will take place across Indonesia Design District PIK2 as well as various strategic destinations, including Batavia PIK, Pantjoran PIK, Central Market PIK, By The Sea PIK, Land’s End PIK, and Orange Groves PIK2.
Within this broader context, the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection exhibition stands as one of the most prestigious international highlights at IDW 2026. Its presence embodies the annual event’s core principles, Crafted in Collaboration, Curated by Culture, and Built Through Diversity, a manifesto demonstrating how design can build sustainable connections across geographies, disciplines, and generations.
Furthermore, the exhibition highlights the dedication of Marva Gricin Wilshire, Founder and Curator of SaloneSatellite, who pioneered the exhibition in 1998. Under her leadership, the exhibition stands as a testament to how the right ecosystem can support the creative process of young talents from the very beginning, bridging their innovative ideas with manufacturing systems and ultimately bringing their products into the global market.

Furthermore, Marva Gricin Wilshire will also be taking part in the Jakarta leg of the event as an Ambassador for Italian Design Day, strengthening the dialogue between SaloneSatellite, Italian cultural diplomacy, and the Indonesian design scene. The Jakarta leg of the exhibition will also serve as a tribute to the host city. The Plank Chair by Studio Hendro Hadinata, developed in collaboration with the Indonesian brand EVERY Collections, based in Jakarta, will symbolically return home. This tribute will extend across Asia with the bamboo vases by Shahril Faisal, linked to the presence of the Malaysian collective Tanggam at SaloneSatellite; the metal tray by the Korean designer Suntae Kim; and Interlaced, a brilliantly conceived room divider lamp by Taiwanese studio ViiChendesign for Camino.
The exhibition is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta, reinforcing the role of cultural exchange in building new connections between the Italian design sector and Southeast Asia. Its exhibition design, conceived by architects Ricardo Bello Dias and Hariadna Pinate, will recreate the spirit of SaloneSatellite in Jakarta and guide visitors through a dynamic display of objects, ideas, and stories.
The arrival of the exhibition in Jakarta is a direct continuation of IDD PIK2’s strategic strides onto the global design stage. In April 2026, IDD PIK2 anchored its international presence with the IDD Pavilion at Salone del Mobile.Milano. By participating in SaloneSatellite and the Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation exhibition, IDD PIK2 firmly placed Indonesia’s contemporary design identity on the map, highlighting local mastery of premium natural materials such as rattan, wood, weaving, metal, and ceramics. This Permanent Collection showcase in Jakarta deepens that initial synergy, unlocking a lasting reciprocal dialogue with one of the world’s most definitive design platforms.
